GP35C
Dan and I are at it again tracking down unit historys.
Tonight a seemingly inoculate photo appeared on RP, one that most people would look at and ignore.

T&P's 2000 and 2001 may look like any other rebuilt GP35's but look closely there not, Both are cat repowers, and very interesting in there own respects. Both are one of a kind, even from each other.
Ill start with the 2000
T&P 2000 started life as L&N GP35 1111 F/N 7743-1 Blt 5/1964 as part of a 3 unit order, she later went on to become SBD 4308 and later CSXT 4308 before being sold on 12/86 to Republic Locomotive to be rebuilt into a RL2000.... Which is effectively a 2000HP cat 3516 powered GP35
RL2000 http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=9108 (the image shows earlier in 1986, yet all the CSXT retirement dates show 12/86)
2000 was later sold to the PPU (Peoria & Perkins Union)
Somewhere in life the 2000 picked up a canadian style numberboard mounted bell and a large plow, these are not as built L&N features. The only thing Dan and I can come up with that Republic was targeting a Canadian road like Caterpillar loving BCR.
T&P 2001
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=16265
Was built as GM&O 612 F/N 7670-12 on 4/1964, She was also built with ARR-B trucks from a ALCO trade-in. She would later become ICG 2511 and IC 2511 before being sold to VMV to be rebuilt into a GP35C (or GP35Cat or GP35M) In 1990. She would later become PAL 3516 (Paducah and Louisville Railroad) before becoming the PPU's 2001.
At first glance she looks a lot like a GP35 that's been turned into a GP38, having a paper air filter box and missing the center fan, but she is missing the TM blower duct (which 2000 also lacks) and has a single stack for the cat engine. Somewhere in life she lost her ARR-B's for a standard set of Bloomburg-B's.
Both units are powered by 2000HP 3516's the same engine which is found in the current day GP20D which is built by EMD/Wabtec.
